Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ukraine in 2008 is projected at $8-9 billion and in 2009 at over $5 billion, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Oleksandr Savchenko said.
"FDI will definitely decrease compared to this year, which is to see $8-9 billion in investment, however it will remain at a level of over $5 billion. This is the estimate of international organizations, investment banks… i.e. even if there is a small deficit [of the current account], FDI will fill its gap," he said at a Fitch Ratings conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
He also said that about half of the FDI coming to Ukraine are Ukrainian companies' assets returning to the country.
