Kyiv city council has failed to take a decision on decreasing public transport fares to UAH 1. Only 58 deputies of the 61 necessary backed the decision at council session on Thursday.
The faction of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko submitted a draft decision on the cancellation of the Kyiv city administration's order to increase public transport fares in Kyiv by three and four times.
All deputies from the BYT, the Bloc of Vitaliy Klychko and the Bloc of Lytvyn voted for this decision.
At the same time, the deputies supported a draft decision on additional social guarantees of travel in public transport. The Bloc of Leonid Chernovetsky submitted this draft for consideration.
The document foresees that the number of Kyiv residents qualifying for privileges on travel in public transport will be increased from 550,000 to 700,000 people. In particular, all pensioners in Kyiv without exception will have the right to travel free on the city's subway.
