Ukraine's total foreign debt in 2009 grew by 2.3%, to $103.973 billion, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has reported.
According to an NBU statement, in the fourth quarter of 2009 the gross foreign debt fell by 0.8% from $104.795 billion.
The statement reads that the main reason for the growth inUkraine's gross foreign debt last year were loans taken in the sector of state management: the volume of the loans in 2009 grew by 48.9%, to $17.806 billion. The loans in October to December 2009 rose by 11.9%, or by $1.897 billion.
Along with that, last year the banking sector decreased its foreign debt by 22%, to $30.788 billion. In the fourth quarter of 2009 the banks' total foreign debt shrank by 9.4%, or by $3.196 billion.
