Ukraine cabinet to cancel transport duty, increase excise duty on petrol, says premier

The Ukrainian cabinet plans to cancel transport duty and increase the excise duty on petrol, Ukrainian premier Mykola Azarov said on September 3, presenting the draft Tax Code.

"We'll cancel the tax on vehicle owners, expecting that the main part of payments will come in the form of excise duties on petrol… The more people drive and the larger engine their vehicles have, the more petrol they consume and the more money would be paid [to the budget]," he said.

According to a press release of the state committee for regulatory policy and entrepreneurship, since 2011 the transport fee would be included in the excise duty on petrol.
