Verification subdivisions of the U.S. Controlled Demolition, Inc. Company have arrived to Ukraine to oversee work on scrapping and recycling 9K72 missile systems (Scud) remaining in Ukraine, the press service of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
According to the military department, the cooperation on the program to scrap and recycle Scud missile systems is held under a memorandum of understanding between the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and the U.S. Department of State signed in November 2009.
According to the document, Controlled Demolition, Inc. is a contractor in the project.
Three state-run companies and one private company are Ukrainian subcontractors, according to results of a tender, the military department said. The defense ministry did not give their names or any other details of the project.
The project foresees the scrapping of about 1,440 tonnes of a rocket fuel component known as mélange. The recycling is carried out as part of a Ukraine-OSCE joint project.
The project to eliminate and recycle Scud missile systems is to be completed by the ended of 2015.
