The Ukrainian cabinet is planning to realize pilot projects to set up light-emitting diode illumination in cities that are to host the Euro 2012 European football championship, according to Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov.
"We should introduce [this type of] illumination in the cities that consume the largest amounts of electricity. First, this concerns four cities that will host the Euro 2012," he said during his visit of an exhibition of domestic energy saving diode illumination producers in Kyiv on Monday.
The premier said that light-emitting diode production should be organized in Ukraine in the next two or three years.
"Our main task is to set up our own production of light-emitting diodes in two or three years, and then we'll be able to provide them not only to Ukraine, but also to neighboring states," he said.
The head of the state target program "Designing and introducing energy saving diode illumination," Viktor Sorokin, said that from September a joint Ukrainian-Korean company working on the production of light-emitting diodes will start operating.
