People opposed to marking the 370th birthday of Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa held a protest in Simferopol on Friday.
Around a hundred people participated in the protest, which was jointly organized by the Crimean organizations of the Russian Bloc party and the Russian Community. The rally was held outside the Ukrainian president's office in Crimea.
The protesters held posters with the slogans "Dog Mazepa, damn you and your ideological followers!" "Eternal shame on the sickly Judas - Ivashka Mazepa and his followers!" and "Ukraine's future is in alliance with Russia."
They also held the flags of Russia, as well as the portraits of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, and Russian Emperor Peter the Great.
The participants in the rally threw eggs at a large poster depicting a UAH 10 banknote featuring Mazepa, and then smeared the poster with manure.
