Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has said that the country has the political will to modernize its gas transportation system.
He made the comment while addressing an international investment conference on the modernization of Ukraine's gas transit system in Brussels on Monday.
Yuschenko said that Ukraine is meeting its commitments responsibly and openly, and that any "misunderstanding about the transit of energy resources" is unprofitable to it, "because all this is being finally used against Ukraine and the entire European community."
"We want to modernize our gas transportation system to guarantee the level of its performance at [the highest] possible standards," he said.
Yuschenko said that Ukraine wants consumers always to know where the goods they have bought are, and how they are being transferred.
"At last, we have a firm intention to finally make order in this sector and improve its work, removing any corrupt schemes, excluding the slightest chance of political pressure and increasing its common economic benefit," he said.
