Regions Party calls for uniting interests of EU, Russia in modernizing Ukraine's GTS

Regions Party Leader Viktor Yanukovych believes that Ukraine will take full advantage of the modernization of its gas transportation system when both the European Union and Russia have an interest in it.

"The recent conference on the modernization of Ukraine's gas transportation system was not sufficiently prepared for. We should unite interests of the supplier, the customer and the transit country, as only in this case we can succeed. Unfortunately, this didn't happen at the conference," he said at a meeting with the Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira, Head of the European Commission Delegation in Ukraine, the press service of the Regions Party has said.

Agreeing that Ukraine's gas transportation system should be urgently upgraded and that investments should be found to do this, Yanukovych said that his government, when in office, had been working actively on these issues.

"At the same time, Ukraine should unite the interests of the European Union and Russia in the issues of gas supplies. We should be a reliable bridge between the EU and Russia. Ukraine is very interested in the implementation of this project," the politician said.
