Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said he believes that relations between Moscow and Kyiv have become formalized.
"Today, the relations between our countries have been formalized. Meetings are being held, hands are being shaken, new promises made, whereas what we need is to bring cooperation to a level appropriate to the existing social needs," Lytvyn said at a meeting with St. Petersburg Governor Valentyna Matviyenko on Thursday.
He expressed confidence that Ukraine and Russia should interact more closely with each other as well as with other former Soviet states.
According to the speaker, the post-Soviet markets can be of the greatest importance for sales of commodities produced in Ukraine and Russia.
