A broad coalition between the Regions Party and the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko would be able to tackle Ukraine's economic crisis, Regions Party MP Dmytro Tabachnyk has said.
"We're obliged to tell the truth to the people. Only a large coalition can unite the country and pass the necessary constitutional amendments, without which effective work by the government is impossible and without which it is impossible to tackle the crisis," he said from the parliament's rostrum on Tuesday.
In his opinion, the supporters of such a coalition should persuade the public of the need to reform the state system.
"The problem lies not only in certain people, although inappropriate decisions by the incumbent president undoubtedly add particular acuteness to the crisis," he said.
Tabachnyk said that the president was constantly intervening in the government's activity and that this will continue until the constitution clearly distributes the powers of the president and the prime minister. He said that a reform of the government system was not an absolute distribution of powers.
"This issue doesn't only concern constitutional amendments, but also a systemic reform of the court and electoral systems. First and foremost, the issue concerns economic measures," he added.
Tabachnyk said that such a coalition should also include other factions.
"Today, we have a historic chance to break out of the vicious circle of provoking tensions between the east and west of Ukraine. We have a medicine to cure a dangerous disease that is destroying the entire state mechanism. It is called a large coalition. Speaking of the large coalition, I mean not just a two-faction formation, as stated by political outsiders," he said.
