Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has closed Wednesday's extraordinary meeting of the parliament.
Before closing the meeting, he briefed the MPs on the results of a conciliatory council meeting.
Lytvyn said that the participants in the meeting had decided to extend talks, first and foremost, on staff issues. He said that there had been three options to continue the parliament's work on Wednesday. He said that there had been proposals to consider all staff issues currently registered in parliament, consider dismissals and appointments in one package, or consider appointments to current vacant posts in the Cabinet of Ministers.
Lytvyn said that the meeting participants had not supported any of these proposals.
"The agenda has, in fact, been exhausted, apart from staff issues," he said, adding that parliament could not continue working on Wednesday, as the Regions Party was blocking the session hall.
He said that if there is a proposal to hold one more extraordinary meeting, this meeting would be held no later than in three days.
"If there is a proposal about an extraordinary meeting, such a meeting will be held this week," he said.
Lytvyn said that if there are no proposals of this kind, respective issues would be considered during the parliament's plenary meetings next week.
He said that 150 MPs, three factions, or five committees could propose holding an extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.
