Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has said that the development of hydropower engineering is a priority in Ukrainian-Tajik cooperation.
"We have agreed that the priority of our relations is the development of hydropower engineering," Yuschenko said at a press conference held jointly with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Kyiv on Thursday.
The Ukrainian president said this was stipulated in a joint statement on the results of the Ukrainian-Tajik negotiations.
Yuschenko noted that Ukraine is currently supplying 87% of the energy equipment required by Tajikistan, and that this equipment should be modernized.
He said Ukraine is interested in further cooperation on the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant in Tajikistan. Ukraine has already supplied two power-generating units at this plant, and today is considering the provision of another six, he said.
"We are considering a deal worth several hundred million dollars," the president said.
