Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has ordered regional state administrations and city administrations to produce gauze masks within a week.
She made the comment during a teleconference with regional governors in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Tymoshenko said that First Vice Premier Oleksandr Turchynov would oversee the implementation of the order.
She said that new rules for producing gauze masks take effect in Ukraine on November 4.
"We don't need masks that cover eyes and ears... The issue doesn't concern the number of layers (gauze masks should have four layers of gauze) - the issue concerns their size," Tymoshenko said.
She also stressed the need to amend all respective documents so that "each Ukrainian citizen is provided with two masks during such a period [of epidemic]."
