Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko have underlined the dynamics of the development of Ukrainian-Belarusian relations.
The two said this at a meeting on Friday, which was held as part of Lukashenko's official visit to Ukraine, the parliament's press service reported.
"We highly appreciate the position of Belarus with respect to Ukraine and your personal contribution to the development of bilateral relations, owing to which they are of a trusting nature," Lytvyn said. He also described the situation in the neighboring state as "dynamic, orderly, and [featuring] mutual understanding between the authorities and people."
Lytvyn also said that the Ukrainian parliament would provide overall legal assistance to the further development of bilateral cooperation.
Lukashenko, in turn, praised the high dynamics of the development of Ukrainian-Belarusian relations, adding that Belarus and Ukraine have "similar positions" on the settlement of many international issues.
He said that during his meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko, they had managed to resolve all of the problems that existed in bilateral relations.
"We'll always conduct policies in the interests of our nations," Lukashenko said.
The sides also discussed a number of issues of cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, as well as the question of presidential elections in Ukraine.
