16:27

The union of women people's deputies of Lviv region is to give a present of a tie to Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Emilia Podliashetska, a people's deputy of Lviv regional council, has told journalists on Wednesday.

"The women of Lviv region will give a present of a tie to Vladimir Putin so that he will have something to do after the elections in Ukraine," she said.

According to her, the present is a response to statements of Putin made at a meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and Georgia. Podliashetska noted that the tie for the Russian premier was dark blue with red spots, and inexpensive.

Podliashetska also read out an address from the All-Ukrainian union of women people's deputies to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev concerning statements Putin made during his recent meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in Crimea.

"The All-Ukrainian union of women people's deputies is outraged by the statements of Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin concerning the meeting of the presidents of the two independent states [Ukrainian President] Viktor Yuschenko and [Georgian President] Mikheil Saakashvili on November 19," the report says.

"The statement of Putin that 'The fighters reminisced about past days and battles that they have lost together' is unworthy of such a high-ranking official of a great state like Russia. We consider such statements as contempt for the Ukrainian and Georgian peoples," the report says.

In connection with the statements of Putin, the union asks Medvedev "to undertake all possible measures so as not to allow the humiliation of the nation via statements of contempt from high-ranking officials of Russia towards representatives of other nations."

According to Podliashetska, the address to the Russian president and the tie for Putin will be delivered via the general consul of Russia in Lviv.
