The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has enough money to cover the country's payments for imported gas, according to the leader of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission in Ukraine, Ceyla Pazarbasioglu.
"The NBU has enough resources [to pay for imported gas] too," she said at a press conference on Wednesday.
She noted that the potential liabilities of the national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy were considered in preparing the IMF credit program for Ukraine.
Pazarbasioglu also said that the current situation indicates that the NBU may end 2008 with some funds to spare.
"We believe that the national bank has a certain buffer [of funds]," she said.
