The new coalition at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will actively influence the financial market, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said.
"We fully back the independence of the National Bank [of Ukraine], all the functions of the NBU in the country's financial sector, so that the bank can carry out independent policies. However, another instrument has been added to our joint work - this is the majority in the parliament, which can rise above all the institutions in Ukraine and based on the law can regulate the financial market... using such instruments as refinancing, and functioning of the currency market," the premier said in Kyiv on Thursday while opening a meeting of leaders of commercial banks and the National Bank.
NBU Governor Stelmakh is also present at the meeting.
