Tymoshenko discusses with Merkel IMF stand-by loan, EU financial assistance

10:44

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the prospects for Ukraine's getting next tranche of the loan under the Stand-By Arrangement with the International Monetary Fund and macro-financial assistance from the European Union during a meeting in Bonn on Thursday.

Ukrainian Vice-Premier Hryhoriy Nemyria told this to reporters on the airplane while the governmental delegation was returning from Bonn.

The meeting took place after the congress of the European People's Party in Bonn on Thursday.

"A brief meeting of the premier and German Chancellor Angela Merkel took place. The principal issue for discussion was the continuation of cooperation with the IMF as well as the prospects for the implementation of the EU decision about the provision of the macro-financial assistance to Ukraine [to the tune of EUR 610 million]," he said.

Nemyria added that Tymoshenko and Merket discussed the prospects of the European Union's issuing EUR 500 million as a second tranche of assistance to Ukraine and the possible approval of this decision by the European Parliament, as though the provision of funds has already been agreed with the European Commission, their disbursement is conditioned by the continuation of cooperation with the IMF.

The vice-premier added that the government wants to use these funds to support the state budget.
