Brake failure was behind the tram accident in Odesa, director of the municipal electric transport enterprise Odesmiskelektrotrans Svitlana Kobylianska told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.
According to her, the tram was moving from one repair bay to another and there were no passengers inside.
The driver of a Tavria car, which was trapped under the overturned tram, died as a result of the accident, Kobylianska said. Besides, a woman, who was passing by, was startled by a racing tram and fell down breaking her arm. A woman driving the tram was not hurt, Odesmiskelektrotrans director said.
Kobylianska promised that Odesmiskelektrotrans will provide material aid to the family of the late driver and the passing-by woman.
As reported, on Thursday morning a tram suffered brake failure on a hill and overturned on Balkivska Street in Odesa, crushing a car and killing its driver.
