A law on the ratification of the agreement on the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian state border came into force following its publication in the government's official newspaper Uriadovy Kurier on Tuesday, August 3.
The agreement on the demarcation of the state border was signed by the foreign ministers of the two countries in Kyiv on May 17, 2010, and the Ukrainian parliament ratified it on July 8.
First deputy head of the Ukrainian Border Service, Pavlo Shysholin, said earlier that materials and demarcation signs had been purchased and the work could begin. Russia announced even earlier that it was ready to start demarcating the border this year. The land border between the two countries is almost 2,000 kilometers long.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych signed a law on the ratification of an agreement on the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian state border on July 22.
