First Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov has said he is not claiming the post of Kyiv mayor.
"I'm not claiming the post of mayor. I don't want to engage in politics. Right now I have a lot of economic issues that I need to consider, and therefore, I have no time for politics," he told reporters on Tuesday.
He noted that Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky was on leave until September 1. Popov said that according to the law, Chernovetsky had the right to work until 2012.
However, he did not rule out the possibility of the election of Kyiv mayor before 2012, "according to the law and the constitution, if respective decisions are taken."
