Leader of the Front for Change political party MP Arseniy Yatseniuk has prepared and submitted to the secretariat of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense parliamentary faction a draft query to the Constitutional Court about the constitutionality of certain provisions of the current law on local elections.
Yatseniuk urged the parliamentarians representing democratic forces to affix their signatures to the document, as a constitutional query should be backed by at least 45 MPs, the press service of the Front for Change reported on Wednesday.
The draft query claims that certain provisions of the existing law on local elections violate the constitutional rights of citizens and conflict with the Fundamental Law.
These are the provisions giving the right to form local electoral commissions only to the political forces holding seats in parliament, the right of the Central Election Commission at its own discretion to cancel the decisions of local electoral commissions and establish the results of local elections, the right of electoral commissions during counting of votes and the establishment of the election returns on the day of the ballot to pass decisions by a majority of votes of the present members of the commission, regardless of their number, the right to nominate candidates for members of local councils only from those political forces, which were registered no later than a year before the election day.
Yatseniuk asked the Constitutional Court to consider his presentation within a month.
