The Central Election Commission of Ukraine has decided to request that the Cabinet of Ministers provide additional financing for priority measures to implement the law on local elections.
The list of priority measures needed to implement the law on the election of members of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils, and the mayors of cities, towns and villages was approved at a council meeting on Friday, August 20, the media relations department of the secretariat of the CEC said on Friday.
In particular, the budget subsidies from the state budget to local budgets for holding the elections of members of Crimea's Supreme Council, local councils and mayors of cities, towns and villages total UAH 1.321 billion. Since the law on the state budget of Ukraine for 2010 foresees UAH 1.041 billion for holding local elections, UAH 8.498 million of which has already been spent on holding early local elections in 2010, an additional UAH 289.3 million is required for conducting the regular local elections on October 31, 2010.
