The Security Service of Ukraine has questioned First Deputy Head of the Batkivschyna Party Oleksandr Turchynov as a witness in the case on the customs registration of 11 billion cubic meters of natural gas owned by the Swiss-registered gas trader RosUkrEnergo, according to a court ruling.

Turchynov was in the Security Service of Ukraine headquarters for about two hours on Wednesday and has now left the building.

"They summoned me for interrogation on the well-known RosUkrEnergo case, according to which 11 billion cubic meters of gas were practically transferred to RosUkrEnergo as a result of a secret agreement with the management of NJSC Naftogaz. I noted in the protocol that, unfortunately, instead of investigating the corruption of higher official who, in fact, are giving national resources to RosUkrEnergo, in fact, being the real co-owners of this company, the security service is investigating a case against state officials who protected the interests of Ukraine," Turchynov told reporters after his questioning.

He added that he had "given clear evidence and noted that the customs management and management of NJSC Naftogaz acted in accordance with the constitution and the laws in this case."

Turchynov also stressed that during the questioning he said that all his actions related to the issue also corresponded to the national interests.

"I underwent the interrogation as a witness," he said.

He said that he did not know whether he would undergo more questioning or not.

Turchynov said that with regard to questions that referred to "political nuances," he had used his right not to answer.
