The 1+1 TV Channel is to remove short commercial breaks from the news.
According to a posting on the official Web site of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council, Deputy Director General of the TV Channel Maksym Varlamov has personally said this to the regulator.
"In February 2010 the 1+1 studio started to have short commercial breaks before and during the news, which is a violation of the law 'On Commercials'." Explaining such decision, Varlamov referred to the norms of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television, which allows commercial breaks in news programs that last more than half an hour.
However, the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council insisted the TV channel should follow the national legislation in this case.
The deputy director general of the channel proposed that the regulator address the corresponding expert organizations to settle the conflict.
