The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has increased the penalties for the untimely payment or unjustified non-payment of wages, scholarships, pensions and other payments under a new law.
In particular, the law foresees the imposition of fines of from 30 to 100 tax-free allowances for any violation of the fixed payment terms or other violations of labor legislation by the management of enterprises and organizations, irrespective of their form of ownership, and by the citizens registered as entrepreneurs.
Moreover, the Criminal code of Ukraine was amended. According to these amendments, unjustified failure to pay wages, scholarships, pensions and other payments fixed by the law shall be punished with a fine amounting to 500-1,000 tax-free allowances, or by corrective labor for up to two years, or by imprisonment for up to two years along with depriving the right to hold certain posts and engage in certain activities for up to three years.
Of the 433 MPs registered at parliament on Thursday, 247 voted to approve the law.
