The head of the parliamentary committee on national security and defense, Anatoliy Hrytsenko, has sent a letter to President Viktor Yuschenko proposing that he urgently submit a candidate for chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) for consideration by the parliament.
"The Verkhovna Rada's committee on national security and defense is concerned that over the last two years, the post of the SBU head has been occupied by acting head Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, the appointment of whom to this post has failed due to an order by former SBU chief Ihor Dryzhchany," Hrytsenko's press service quoted his the letter.
"A draft resolution on the appointment of Nalyvaichenko as SBU head submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada on December 19, 2007, which was supported by our committee, was, unfortunately, rejected by the parliament on September 2, 2008. Despite the Verkhovna Rada's decision, Nalyvaichenko is continuing to serve as SBU head," Hrytsenko said
