Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov has demanded that the Kyiv city state administration bring fares for passenger transport services in Kyiv to a justified level, i.e. at least half the present level.
Turchynov chaired a council on the preliminary results of checks of the expediency of increasing public transport fares in Kyiv, the first vice-premier's press service reported on Tuesday.
During the council, working group members informed Turchynov about opposition from the administration and its structures in providing objective information. However, the analysis conducted demonstrates the inexpediency of raising transport fares, and concluded there was a possibility to halve them.
Information gathered during the checks shows that fares in Kyiv metro should not be higher than UAH 1 and in surface transport no higher than UAH 0.80, Turchynov said.
