Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has demanded that an anti-crisis plan for Ukraine's banking system should be drafted within ten days.
Yuschenko said this at a meeting with representatives of Ukrainian banks, the first deputy head of the presidential secretariat, Oleksandr Shlapak, said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"The president has asked for the anti-crisis plan to be completed within ten days and presented to the mass media, the public and the president," Shlapak said.
According to Shlapak, the public should be confident that the banks' leadership recognizes the need to do everything possible to overcome the crisis.
Shlapak also noted that around ten banks with which the president is continually working are successfully operating on the forex market.
"These are ten partner banks that can carry out all banking operations," he added.
Shlapak hinted that the banks whose leaders were taking part in a meeting with Yuschenko, are among these "trustworthy banks."
Yuschenko met on Tuesday with the heads of PrivatBank, Nadra Bank, OTP Bank, Ukreximbank, Alfa-Bank, UkrSibbank, Ukrsotsbank and Ukrincombank.
