Ukraine's Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has said he is against raising speed limits on the country's motorways.
"As the interior minister, I am against a drastic increase in the maximum allowed speed on Ukrainian roads," Lutsenko told reporters on Thursday.
According to him, the Interior Ministry has scrutinized this proposal and is ready to agree to raising speed limits only on modern high-speed motorways, to a maximum of 110 kilometers per hour.
The minister said that raising the maximum speed to 110 kilometers per hour within settlements, for instance, would lead to a catastrophe. The minister noted that last year, 15,000 people were injured in traffic accidents caused by speeding drivers.
Lutsenko said he had signed the Interior Ministry's proposals and they had been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers.
